Starting to feel like myself again....

Wow!!  I can't believe it's been over a month since I my treatment ended!!  I've really slacked on the whole blogging thing and I'm sorry about that.  I struggled with whether the blog should end when my treatment ended or if I should continue.  Ultimately, I realized that there is still so much that happens after official treatment ends and it's been sort of therapeutic to blog through this time in my life so I decided to keep at it (at least for a while).

Lots has happened since I last blogged.  Those few couple of weeks after treatment ended were really rough as the side effects of radiation and chemo seemed to get worse before they started to get better.  I had some really rough days and realized that sometimes it's okay to have an ugly cry and it's normal to miss the life that once was.  But over time the side effects lessened and I am gaining more and more energy each day.

On Friday October 13th I had my follow-up visit with my Oncologist.  I know what your thinking - who wants to have a follow-up appointment on Friday the 13th?!  Well, I figured that since I've had what some would call "bad luck" recently, maybe a notoriously bad luck day like Friday the 13th would be good luck for me.  My oncologist conducted a physical exam and said that things were looking very good.  We discussed the vaccine study that I considering participating in and the steps that needed to be taken to make it happen.  Step one was to get a CT scan, which I had on October 18th.  My oncologist called that same day to say that the CT scan looked good but that the ovarian cyst that I have had since before being diagnosed was bigger than before.  For the study , this ovarian cyst would need to be biopsied at a minimum but because it is continuing to grow we decided that surgical removal would probably be best.  So I was scheduled for an outpatient surgery for Wednesday October 25th.

However, in true blackcloud style, I was diagnosed with a DVT (deep vein thrombosis or blood clot) on Monday of this week and my oncologist has decided to delay surgery until next week (plan is for surgery on Thursday November 2nd).

In the meantime, I am now getting Lovenox (blood thinner for all my non-pharm peeps) injections twice a day.  Nathan has been a super trooper with giving me the injections (he watched a YouTube video to prepare and it only took me 20 minutes the first time to stop freaking out and finally let him do it - bhahahaha.  So wish I had this on video).  So that's the plan for now....
