As some of you know, I am really weird about my neck and don't like to be constricted (I detest turtle necks!!) so I was more worried about the thyroid biopsy than I was surgery. The endocrinologist started with an ultrasound of my thyroid to assess the nodule. She explained that the nodule had an impressive blood supply and that was why it showed up on the PET. She took 4 samples during the procedure. Overall, the biopsy procedure was not too bad but there was a little pain during the procedure and some soreness that lasted for a few days.
I am happy to report that the biopsy results came back super fast and the mass is NOT cancer!! I will just follow-up with endocrinology on an annual basis to monitor the size of the mass.

This was me for a week after surgery:) |
SURGERY:
My surgery to remove the ovarian cyst went very smoothly. They made three small incisions in my lower abdomen (one in my belly button and one on each side). My oncologist spoke with Nathan after the surgery and stated that the cyst that was removed was the size of a grapefruit (yikes!!) but that everything else looked really good!! After surgery I had some pretty significant shoulder pain (side effect of the gas that is used during the surgery to inflate the abdominal cavity to allow for better visualization during laparoscopic surgery) and abdominal pain. I took pain meds for the first three days after surgery and have been getting better and better each day.
I have an appointment with my Oncologist this Tuesday (11/21) and will hopefully have the pathology results from my surgery (just need to make sure the cyst wasn't cancer) and will get the ball rolling for my enrollment into the study!!
Thank you all for the support and love!!
