Bump in the road....

It is with determination and strength that I write this entry today.  But to be honest, this bump in the road has been a tough one.

The BUMP in the road....
A little over a week ago my oncologist called me with the pathology results.  She was suppose to call, tell me the mass was only a cyst, and I should be preparing myself to enroll in the vaccine study.  That was the plan.  That was how I wanted things to go.  However, that's not how the conversation went.  Long story short - the pathologist from Harvard concluded that there were cancer cells present.  From what I now understand, cervical cancer spreading to the ovary is very rare but possible and I happen to be one of the unlucky women to which this has happened.  This bump in the road might just be the most frustrating one!  And while this may seem like a set back, I will not let this defeat me!!  So now let's focus on the good news and that is - the mass (along with the cancer cells) has been removed and the pelvic washing after surgery (looking for cells in my abdomen) did not find any cancer cells.

The PLAN....
Soooo what does this mean for me now?  I am not eligible for the vaccine study so that chapter has been closed.  I have discussed my options with my oncologist and we have decided to do additional chemotherapy (6 cycles of paclitaxel, carboplatin, and bevacizumab every 21 days) to eradicate any trace of cancer cells that have survived my previous treatment.  Additional chemo is never something someone wants or wishes for - but I am grateful to have options to continue this fight!!

Thanks Lauren!!
Things moved pretty fast last week and before I knew it I was receiving my first cycle of chemo last Thursday (11/30) at the Mill Run Clinic.  Overall, the infusions went well (no infusion reactions - keep your fingers crossed because I still have to make it through cycle 2 to be safe:).  The Mill Run nurses and staff were amazing and I was given a super cute care package from an awesome co-worker >>>>!

Chemo Recovery AHEAD.....
Stay tuned for a play by play of my chemo recovery!!
